In addition, we offer tutor support for students in Math and English as well as specialized literacy programming for EAL students. Math 9 Plus is designed to support concept mastery and is taken every day during both semesters. The course encourages students to work in partnership with local community members to develop projects to improve our neighborhood and city. By the time Grade 9 starts, many students know their way around the school and feel comfortable navigating the hallways, becoming involved with drama productions and sports teams and experiencing the many clubs at Centennial Collegiate. More than 80 per cent of our students in Grade 9 are involved in an extracurricular program. Teachers from elementary schools and Centennial Collegiate meet to consider academic programming that will assist students in being successful in Grade 9.

This commitment to excellence helps students quickly adjust to the rigour of high school with the majority of our Grade 9s attaining honour roll status at midterm. From the time our Grade 9 team engages in the transition process with our elementary schools, our focus is on creating a safe and successful move to high school for students. Student Services counsellors, support program teachers and Grade 9 teachers prepare well in advance to ensure student strengths and needs are well known and accommodated before Grade 8 students reach our hallways. Co-teaching, offered in most Grade 9 core subject areas, and the Math 9 Plus Program allow for individualized and remedial instruction to students who need it.

Ongoing counselling and support programs are available for all students. Teachers, staff and students work hard to create an atmosphere of support and belonging. A yearly fall retreat allows the Grade 9 class to nuture a sense of identity and community. Our extracurricular program allows students to stretch their talents, interests and skills. I have been given many opportunities to participate in many different activities, which have helped me discover some of my interests as well. There is really something for everyone. Walter Murray students represent more than 40 different nationalities and come from all areas of Saskatoon. We work to maintain a safe and inclusive atmosphere and positive relations with our neighbours.

Student Services counsellors and our Restorative Action Program RAP worker support students in healthy decision-making and conflict resolution. We want students to feel connected to our school and their learning. The Grade 9 programming at Walter Murray has been structured so students are not overwhelmed by the physical space of our large collegiate and by the number of students and staff. Students are grouped into cohorts based on programming choices. Please note—all Grade 9 program groupings provide the core Grade 9 classes.

The Grade 9 experience at Walter Murray is an interdisciplinary, project-based program that meets Grade 9 curriculum outcomes. Teachers work collaboratively within student groupings to deliver programming that addresses the needs of all students within the same classroom. We have an EAL support teacher, a resource teacher and a literacy teacher involved in co-teaching and supporting students in our programming cohorts. Within the Grade 9 compulsory courses there are varying levels of integration with the program groupings.

Students who have had significant difficulties with regular Math programming may be candidates for Math 9 Plus, a course designed to reinforce foundational concepts. City Park School has been repurposed to provide unique learning opportunities within our family of Saskatoon Public Schools.

Originally built in , one-third of the school has undergone extensive renovations. The Flexible Schedule, Blended Learning Program allows students in Grades 7—12 to participate in skill development outside of traditional school offerings while providing a quality education in a flexible learning environment. This program is designed for students who struggle to find enough time in the day to attend regular school hours, complete homework and be dedicated to a high level of athletic or artistic involvement outside of the school.
