Brain in Balance : Understanding the Genetics and Neurochemistry Behind Addiction and Sobriety
Author and physician Dr. Fred Von Stieff, is the Medical Director of a phenomenally successful detoxification unit with unmatched success rates and a reputation for tackling the toughest cases of addiction. This fascinating book about his ground-breaking methods in detoxification and addiction recovery treatment, is a must-listen for anyone who knows or works with people suffering from alcoholism, prescription, or any other kind of drug addiction.
Written for both medical professionals and the families of individuals struggling with substance abuse, it is an absolute goldmine of long-awaited research and answers. Focusing on the brain and its neurotransmitters, this book delves into the irrefutable science behind addiction. The indispensable knowledge offered within these pages will revolutionize how we view, treat, and conquer addictions and cravings.
Providing insight into human behavior, this information will bring hope and understanding to anyone desiring to permanently overcome chemical dependency. This book is revelatory.
I understand a great deal more about the neurobiological factors of addiction whereas there tends to be a focus on the emotional and social factors. I believe this is a crucial text for anyone working with addiction as it gives an experiential and well balanced view of the inter-relation and inter-connectedness of neurotransmitters based on years of clinical observation.
It adds another dimension to the addicted brain and there are fairly straightforward solutions - Policy makers and clinicians take heed! I am so pleased that Frederick Von Steiff has written this. Nowhere else, have I found a book which explains, in simple terms, all we need to know about how our brain balance is affected by certain chemicles, thus equipping and enabling us with the information which will help gus to be able to truely take responsibility for our own health.
I found this book to be very informative. Excellent information for doctors and treatment centers dealing with detoxification and substance abuse to gain an understanding of why people self medicate. It would also be a benefit for primary care physicians to gain an understanding of substance abuse and drug detoxification.
Amazing guide to tackling the most challenging neurochemical imbalances. Must read and read again to implement into ones armentarium of treatment protocols.
