Your wedding party also known as the bridal party will include not only the people who will help you plan your big day, but they also are those you will want by your side when you walk down the aisle and say your vows. Typically your wedding party is made up of your sisters, brothers, and closest friends or family members.
Your wedding party is often considered to be quite involved in your wedding planning process. They will likely dedicate a notable amount of time and possibly money to participate in your day, so it's important to thank your wedding party for all their assistance throughout the process. Jewish weddings traditionally include Chuppah Carriers. They hold the poles of the chuppah - a sacred wedding canopy which symbolizes the couple's new home.
Traditionally, chuppah carriers are men, but may also be any four people the couple is close to. Last year, I found Jasmine Guillory. She's a romance author who loves writing contemporary stories of people of color falling in love. Her first book, The Wedding Date, was absolutely adorable. Her second book, The Proposal, was cute too, but it didn't live up to its hype for me.
Her third novel, The Wedding Party, doesn't come out till later this year, but I've already read it and I'll tell you now that you're going to love it. The story follows Theo and Maddie, two acquaintances meeting by a mutual friend, Alexa, who just happens to be getting married. Theo is a young political person I don't know exactly what he does, but he works in the same mayor's office as Alexa.
He loves the meticulous processes of things like making coffee from scratch. He also seems super smart, sweet, and really loves his younger brother, Ben. Maddie is a young stylist with big dreams and throughout the novel you see her go through the interview process of becoming a TV stylist. They finally meet in person at a party and while first impressions are a little snubbed, they somehow have an instant connection and end up going home with each other.
Thus begins a casual relationship between the two of them with a rule that their encounters would end by Alexa and Drew's wedding. Since they'll be seeing each other often for wedding preparations, of course it'll be tough to keep this all a secret from Alexa and rein in some of that sexual tension during dress fittings and rehearsals.
I mean, the premise of the book is Alexa and Drew's wedding. Theo and Maddie belong to Alexa's wedding party now you see where the name of the book comes from? The book begins in the middle of Drew and Alexa's relationship. However, this isn't another book about Drew and Alexa's love story. I thought the overlapping of stories was cute, but a little confusing at first. I found myself trying to remember this moment in The Wedding Date, but once I let go of that pursuit, I found the story to be super adorable.
The best part about this story is that you don't have to read The Wedding Date to understand what's going on. Yes, the story is a continuation of Alexa and Drew's relationship, but it's not the focus point. The focus is on Theo and Maddie, who's relationship goes from casual to serious throughout the story.
The Wedding Party by Jasmine Guillory
I think I loved how natural everything felt. Theo and Maddie agreed to a casual relationship with a lot of blush-filled sex scenes and reaffirming of the "rules of conduct. I liked that neither Maddie or Theo had to remind each other of their casual affair. There wasn't a point where someone stopped the entire relationship because they got insecure. They just kept going at this natural progression leading up to the end.
I will admit the relationship isn't perfect and you will definitely see conflict in both their lives, but you know well before the book is over that they will turn out together. Yet though they rub each other the wrong way, they are both best friends with Alexa Monroe. So when she needs them, Maddie and Theo put aside their differences for the sake of their friend.
Neither of them wants Alexa to find out, get her hopes up, then be crushed when Theo and Maddie inevitably break up, so they agree to a secret affair. Maddie is the kind of heroine you wish were real so you could be friends with her. Yes, Theo is the kind of man who makes margaritas from scratch down to the simple syrup , but I loved that about him. The two of them just click in bed and out. Their slide from lust to love is seamless and simply lovely to watch unfold.

Even though I enjoyed the two previous books in this series I was uncertain what I thought about the timeline of this third book. There is a lot of overlap and repeat of scenes. I honestly think that it might have been better for the author to pick a different couple so that the story could start after The Wedding Date and The Proposal timelines.
Instead we get a lot of scenes and scenarios that we have already seen. And Alexa is such a huge focus of this story. This almost feels like her book vs Maddie and Theo's book. Near the beginning of this book we get to see Theo's birthday party which we had already seen.
Yes, we now got to see things from his POV. But to me it was very weird to have Alexa there having a fight with Drew when her story was already mostly completed in The Wedding Date. I did prefer when the story went ahead weeks or months. I enjoyed seeing more of Maddie and Theo's careers. And there were some interesting twists and turns.
Overall, this was an enjoyable book. It was definitely nice seeing the characters from the previous books.

But I definitely think that Alexa's story completely overshadowed this book. I like Alexa a lot. So it was great getting to see the continuation of her story. Just realize going in that that is one of the main focuses of this book. Thanks to netgalley and Berkley Publishing Group for allowing me to read this book.
I absolutely loved this book! It was sheer joy to turn the pages as I was on the edge of my seat with anticipation. I thoroughly enjoyed the way the story unfolded with lighthearted pleasure, sexual tension, love and secrecy. Let me just say I freaking love Maddie and Theo. I was rooting for them the entire time.
The evolution of their relationship was authentic and relatable. The Wedding Party hits shelves on July 16, Mark your calendars book friends, you are are in for a treat! Maddie and Theo may well be my favorite paring of Guillory's because they're just so charming together.

Jasmine Guillory has hit another home run with her newest book, The Wedding Party. Her characters are smart, funny people who screw up, freak out, break up, and make out. It reminded me of conversations I had with my closest friends before they got married and really rang true.
Also, this book is going to make you want to eat all the pizza. Enemies to lovers is one of my favorite tropes but the reason the characters are enemies has to make sense.
It has to be more than finding the other person annoying after a brief conversation. Theo and Maddie had a simple misunderstanding where neither of them came across well but I did not see how it added up to the vitriol between them. However, they both came across as incredibly immature as the book progressed. They were incredibly mean to one another at various points, which did not do either any favor. More than anything, I simply became tired of their protests that they were just hooking up short-term when it was clear from the start something more was between them.
There are protests and marches happening all the time. Other people seem to be enjoying this one. For me, The Wedding Date remains the most successful of her novels but it still is romance novel-lite to me. They're a good choice particularly for people who prefer closed door heat levels it's not entirely closed door but the sex scenes shown are not explicit. Jenica Oh no! I was excited for this one. Leigh Kramer Jenica wrote: "Oh no! Haha" Maybe it'll work for you! I'll be curious to see what you think. Her books are not only fun, romantic reads but also full of references to food. Just a few of my favorite things. Maddie and Theo loathe each other, and the only thing they share in common is a best friend in Alexa. Or are there more feelings there than either are letting on? Could this just be a case of bad first impressions? I was so excited to win this copy from a goodreads and berkleyromance giveaway thank you! I loved that we got more of Alexa in this book, too because she is awesome, and I wanted more of her in the Proposal.
In the end, though, I was won over and of course rooting for them. Also, once again, Guillory kills it with food references. Will it all be too much? Or will true love stand even the most chaotic of wedding celebrations as offered in The Wedding Party? Noted: that's a very narrow category. Look, Nollywood has produced some embarrassing nonsense, but The Wedding Party is something that is actually well-produced and directed. Is that a relatively low bar?
